Practical Prepping Checklist

This page is for use as a supplement to my February 18, 2015 blog entry

Below are suggested items to obtain when preparing for job loss, natural disasters, civil unrest or other extended and unexpected disruptions.

*Please note this is a broad list that should serve only as a guide. Your personal situation should be considered such as your location, climate, likeliest threat, and needs of those living in your home.
Also, consider vulnerable neighbors and local family members should they need your help.*
  • fire proof safe (for cash and other sensitive documents)
  • emergency cash
  • water
    • initial storage of 1 gallon, per person, per day for 1 week
    • back up filtration and/or sanitation
    • back up water containers to transport from local water sources (don't waste precious drinking water for washing and watering)

  • wilderness cooking
  • gardening
  • hunting
  • fishing
  • ham radio operation
  • personal defense*
    • *In my opinion this is often the most over-emphasized and unnecessarily expensive element of "prepping". While personal defense should be a consideration, excessive artillery fueled by  paranoia and a self-centered philosophy toward survival is not something I endorse.
